Melton Borough Council is an ambitious local authority with a track record of providing efficient, well run, community focused services. Melton Mowbray is the ‘Rural Capital of Food’ and has set up a Food Enterprise Zone seeking to develop this sector of the local economy.

The role will require the successful candidate to work in all aspects of environmental health, and offers the post-holder the excellent opportunity to use and develop their already broad knowledge of this exciting and influential discipline. As part of the Regulatory Service team you will be responsible for helping to over-see the day-to-day operational and managerial duties, as well as delivering your own work programme.

You will need to hold a degree or diploma in Environmental Health, be registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board, and be sufficiently competent in food hygiene work to be authorised as a food officer; having experience as a lead food officer would be advantageous. The service is responsible for all aspects of environmental health, so a good knowledge in these specialisms would benefit. You will be expected to have excellent communication skills across all media, be able to effectively manage your workload and have a proven track record of achieving compliance including via statutory action.

Our Council is an exciting place to work. We want to enhance the quality of life for everyone in the Borough of Melton to achieve a sustainable, prosperous and vibrant community. A place where people want to live, work and visit. We employ about 210 people across a range of services. Most of our teams are based at our main offices, Parkside, which is located in the centre of Melton Mowbray. We offer our employees a range of benefits including family friendly policies aimed to enhance work-life balance and flexible working, superb training and development opportunities and Christmas week off! The full list of our excellent benefits available to you are on our website.
