The Job

The post holder will join a team providing a comprehensive environmental protection service across a geographical area of Chichester district.  The aim is to protect the public health of local residents and protect the environment by enforcing relevant legislation.  The successful candidate will be a specialist in statutory nuisance, in particular noise control and reviewing planning and licensing applications to identify environmental issues and recommending conditions to prevent/mitigate impact.  They will also investigate general pollution complaints, undertake PPC inspections, ASB, clean neighbourhoods complaints and deal with animal welfare licensing.  The successful candidate will also be required to attend court, planning committees, licensing hearings and appeals.

The Person

The successful candidate will be suitably qualified, self-motivated and able to work under pressure, managing and prioritising a large workload work.  They will need the demonstrate ability to use their initiative, to progress work in a timely manner, with minimal supervision.  They will need the ability to make decisions within the legal framework and have proven enforcement skills including investigations, PACE interviews, issuing formal notices and preparing prosecution files.   We require someone who has a minimum of 2 years within this field for a local authority and ideally a diploma in acoustics and noise control.
