Eastleigh Borough Council is an ambitious and progressive council. We are recognised for our innovation and achievements, whilst delivering high quality service to our customers and the community. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Environmental Health Specialist to join the Service Delivery directorate working within our Economy unit.

You will lead and develop the Council’s well-regarded Primary Authority work, act as ‘Lead Food Officer’, Health & Safety lead and assume responsibility for the investigation of more serious casework (up to and including the production of prosecution reports).  Balancing Primary Authority work with meeting our food hygiene inspection programme will be a priority. You will also be responsible for developing workflow plans for this work, with careful consideration being given to officers’ ongoing support, training and development needs.

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced environmental health professional, meet the requirements of Lead Food Officer and hold a Higher Certificate in Food Control (or equivalent). A NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent would be a significant advantage.  You will demonstrate extensive experience of conducting inspections and investigations, with an excellent grasp of food and health and safety legislation. You will be able to demonstrate experience of primary authority work and building effective partnerships with business.

The ideal candidate will be highly organised, positive and have a commercial awareness that allow you to develop excellent business opportunities and relationships. You will have excellent communication skills, preparing and presenting reports to Council committees and other internal/external meetings, dealing with members of the public and supporting existing and new business partnerships.  As some travel will be required for this role, a full, clean driving licence is required.

If you are excited by this opportunity and feel you have the skills, experience and attitude we are looking for we would love to hear from you. At Eastleigh, we are inclusive, innovative and enjoyable; we support employees in maintaining work life balance through our flexi time system and offer opportunities for career progression and development. Our benefits are wide ranging, including a generous pension scheme.
