Environmental Health Practitioner x2 (Housing Standards)

£35,286 to £38,229 per annum

Ref: HO001912

The London Borough of Redbridge has recently introduced a selective licensing scheme in two wards, and we are awaiting approval to extend this, which will augment the borough wide additional licensing scheme. This is an exciting time for our service and we are seeking two additional individuals to enhance our excellent team.

We are looking for keen, enthusiastic, suitably qualified and experienced Environmental Health professionals, who will complement and add value to our existing skilled workforce to drive up standards in the private rented sector.

The Housing Standards Team is part of the Community Safety and Enforcement Group of our newly-formed Directorate of Place.

As an Environmental Health Practitioner, you will investigate poor conditions in the Private Rented Sector. You will respond to service requests from residents, take part in pro-active enforcement action and also deal with licensing of houses in multiple occupation. The role will demand a sound knowledge of Housing legislation, enforcement procedures and casework, HHSRS and guidance.

The successful applicant is likely to have worked in a local authority Environmental Health and Housing setting, and will be able to demonstrate good knowledge and experience of associated statutory and regulatory functions.

This position requires an Environmental Health qualification (EHRB) and proof of professional requirements regarding Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is desirable.

Redbridge operates flexible working together with homeworking.

A valid driving licence and use of a car with appropriate insurance for work is advantageous for which a car user allowance is payable. Reasonable adjustments will be considered for disabled candidates.

This post has been designated as safety critical in accordance with the Council’s Alcohol, Drugs and Substance Misuse Policy.

For an informal discussion about the above posts, please contact Garry Wallace, Housing Standards Team Manager on 0208 708 4323.

Closing date: 24th September 2017
Interviews will be held week commencing 2nd October 2017
