The Job:

As an Environmental Health Officer in our Private Sector Housing Team you will deal with the full range of private-sector housing issues including complaint investigation, hazard and nuisance resolution, HMO licensing and proactive inspections, grants, loans and energy efficiency.  You will also play a key part in the team’s delivery of Disabled Facilities Grants. The work is both interesting and challenging.

You will be given considerable independence and the opportunity to develop your skills and experience but will have a busy case-load and will need to demonstrate a commitment to our housing work.

The Person:

You will be a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner with a degree in Environmental Health and EHRB registered*.  You will need to demonstrate recent experience of housing inspection, enforcement and grant work. In particular, you must demonstrate that you understand DFG legislation and the grant process, can inspect residential property to assess and report on its condition, that you can identify and assess hazards using HHSRS and recommend appropriate remedial action and that you are familiar with relevant legislation.  You must be a good communicator and committed to improving housing conditions as key member of our busy team.

We provide a supportive environment but value people with initiative and with the confidence and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

* If you have recently completed an accredited degree in environmental health and are undertaking your PPP, we would be pleased to consider an application from you, but you will need to demonstrate a specific interest in housing work and the commitment and ability to complete your professional development whilst working as a full-time team member.

The Benefits:

•           Flexible working

•           Generous annual leave

•           Childcare vouchers

•           Local government pension scheme

•           Business mileage allowance
