Our client in the North West of England is looking for an Environmental Health Enforcement Officer dealing predominantly with waste, flytipping, over grown land and other environmental crime matters.

 

Duties

 

To investigate complaints from tenants, private householders and businesses concerning drainage, disrepair, empty homes, accumulation of waste, pollution and other general nuisances.

To carry out proactive patrols of the Borough when directed, in order to identify and respond to nuisance and environmental concerns.

To provide assistance to Environmental Health team in terms of administration and inspection as directed.

To prepare reports and assist in the gathering of evidence, investigation of cases, and preparation of legal cases brought by the service.

To prepare and serve legal notices and fixed penalty notices and where necessary arrange for work to be carried out in default/  attend court to give evidence where directed.

Support the Council in the implementation of the Empty Homes Strategy action plan.

Where directed, to undertake surveys of identified empty homes and to communicate with property owners in the borough to facilitate returning empty homes to use.

To utilise a range of technical equipment required to carry out the job including, noise monitoring equipment, CCTV, Mobile information technology devices etc.

 

 

 

Person Specification

 

At least two years experience of working within an Environmental Health, Empty Homes, or private housing renewal service.

Experience of undertaking surveys or inspections.

Up to date knowledge of Environmental Health related legislation and good practice.

Experience of developing relationships internally and externally, working with Partner organisations to deliver shared goals and outcomes

Evidence of recent relevant training/qualifications.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with the public, staff and Management (face to face, telephone, reports, letters and emails). Being able to get things done through working with other people and assisting them to maxmise their contribution to deliver necessary outcomes.
