Tower Hamlets is a fascinating borough, a multi-cultural community steeped in history. The contrasts and challenges in Licensing and Safety work range from the dozens of restaurants in the “Curry Capital” of Brick Lane, to the high-tech corporate world-wide financial institutions in Canary Wharf, employing thousands of people using the Services that Environmental Health and Trading Standards is responsible for.

The Service operates with two distinct areas comprising of health and safety specialists and licensing specialists. We are looking to employ an enthusiastic Environmental Health Officer that will lead on our health and safety enforcement projects, accident investigations and safety complaints.  

We are able to offer a 35 hour week with flexi-time (a maximum of two ‘flexi’ days can be taken in a four week period), structured training opportunities (CPD), excellent salaries an additional car user allowance, advisory and enforcement work and a minimum of 6 weeks paid leave a year

As a Principal Environmental Health Officer, you will be responsible for managing a Team of specialist Officers within the health and safety discipline.

You will be responsible for allocating work, managing projects, investigating accidents and preparing cases for Court.

This post holder will also be responsible for ensuring that the Officers under their direct management are using the available resources to ensure that the health, safety and welfare of visitors and workers within the Borough are protected at all times.   


To be a qualified Environmental Health Officer, holding full EHORB or equivalent registration.
