Home Health and Safety Surveyor

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Housing/Environmental Health Professional to work in our busy team delivering a wide range of functions within the Private Housing Arena.  These include grants and loans for disabled adaptations and essential repairs, housing enforcement including HMOs, landlord liaison and empty homes.

The successful candidate will have appropriate qualifications (for example a Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health or Building Studies), plus preferably at least 3 years’ post qualification experience in private sector housing.  This post has the Lead Officer responsibility for Disabled Facilities Grants, so the ideal candidate will be fully familiar with the relevant legislation and have recent experience in this area of work (particularly in relation to Better Care Funding).  In addition, you will need a good working knowledge of housing enforcement including HMOs and the proposed changes to mandatory licencing.

It is a time of change in the team and you will need to be flexible in your approach and take part in project development for example relating to the implementation of our new Financial Assistance Policy.

What we can offer in return is a great place to work and a great team to work with.  At NFDC we believe that all our employees make a valuable contribution to the work of the council and that’s why we encourage a trusting and open culture where each employee is supported and respected equally, where ideas are actively sought and self-development promoted.  We also recognise the value of a highly motivated and engaged workforce and we actively promote a good work/life balance.

If you like the sound of this and have the ambition, knowledge and experience we’re looking for we would love to hear from you.

Benefits include:-

  • 26 days leave (plus an additional 5 days after 5 years’ service)
  • Local Government pension scheme
  • Payment of professional subscription
  • Parking
  • Child care voucher scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme

If you would like to discuss any aspects of the role further, please contact either Sara White (Housing Grants and Improvements Manager) or Richard Topliss, Service Manager for Housing Property and Performance.

Closing Date:   18 August 2017 ( midday)       Interview Date:   31 August 2017.
