Be where it all happens.

Westminster City Council is a unique and high performing authority and our staff are at the centre of our success. If you want to work for one of London's leading organisations, where you really can make a difference to people's lives, we'd like to hear from you.

We have 1 short term contract (12 months) in the West End and City Operations service. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who wishes to develop their expertise in the field of environmental health with specific emphasis on public health funerals and the investigation of Statutory Nuisance and public health complaints. You should be a qualified Environmental Health Officer.  Experience in both fields is desirable although not essential

The West End & City Operations Service responds to a wide range of service requests including licensing inspections, clean and safe streets, public health funerals and the investigation of Statutory Nuisance and public health complaints.

The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week but your working hours will be a 36 hour working week (Mon-Fri). You will be expected to have the ability to manage all aspects of arranging public health funerals, deal in an effective and sensitive manner with public health funerals enquiries and work collaboratively with a number of internal and external partners to ensure that City Council meets its statutory requirements. Further to this, you will be expected to investigate statutory nuisance and public health complaints.  You will be expected to have the ability to manage a diverse caseload, serve enforcement notices and carry out prosecutions.

Excellent partnership, communication and customer care skills are essential for this role.

Benefits:

  • Interest Free Season Ticket Loan
  • Generous Annual Leave
  • Staff discounts including reduced entry to leisure facilities and free swimming
  • Excellent defined benefit pension scheme
  • Childcare voucher scheme

If you’re as productive as you are ambitious and collaborative as you are enterprising, this is your chance to take real ownership of your work, right in the heart of iconic Westminster, a true ‘City for All’. This is a unique place where it all happens. And where it could all happen for you.
