We are currently looking for two Senior Environmental Health Officers (PRS Licensing and Empty Property Unit).

Senior EHO (PRS licensing)

A growing proportion of Bristol’s population now lives in the private rented sector and the City Council has established a programme of area-based property licensing schemes to ensure that this accommodation meets acceptable standards of safety and amenity.  This Senior Environmental Health Officer post leads a unit of six EHOs who inspect all rented properties in designated areas, enforcing minimum standards and issuing property licences.

The successful applicant of this post will demonstrate:

•             Excellent motivational skills with an approachable attitude and a readiness to give advice and support, ensuring an effective and cohesive workgroup.

•             Good analytical and IT skills, monitoring performance and helping the unit to reach its full potential and individuals to achieve their targets.

•             A positive and forward-looking attitude with an enthusiasm for solving problems.

Senior EHO (Empty homes)

With an acute need for more housing the City Council works hard to bring as many empty homes back into use as possible.  The Empty Property Unit uses a wide range of promotional, enabling and legal tools to bring hundreds of empty homes back into use each year. As well as leading the Empty Property Unit this Senior Environmental Health Officer post directly delivers the city’s active compulsory purchase programme.

The successful applicant for this post will demonstrate:

•             An exceptional ability to communicate with, and influence, owners of empty homes in a wide range of circumstances.

•             Good team working skills with the ability to supervise other members of staff.

•             Ability to manage a diverse workload of complex CPO casework, staff supervision, service development, and urgent nuisance abatement.
