About the Job

The job has been created following a career move. Initially it will be offered on a 12 month contract pending a review of the service.  The post will be working full time in the food safety division and we will consider applications from people who want to work part time and or flexibly.

The team have worked hard on prevention and the need for reactive enforcement is lower than in some London Boroughs. We expect you to engage with business to offer expert advice on compliance.  Where necessary we will provide you with our full support to implement more formal action to ensure public safety. We are expanding our role into primary authority and looking to develop traded services alongside this function.  As a valued member of the team you will be fully engaged in this process.

The job involves programmed interventions of food businesses to check compliance with all aspects of food law including food standards and follow up enforcement where premises fail broad compliance, and rating and re-rating of food premises for FHRS.  Compositional and microbiological sampling forms an integral part of our service and you will be involved in these programs on a regular basis. You will be allocated manufacturing premises based upon your experience and encouraged to gain extra qualifications if required.

We will encourage you to participate in Primary Authority partnerships and you will be responsible for some health and safety at work in food premises and the delivery of non-food related infectious disease control and statutory nuisance investigations where food premises are involved.

About You

Only apply if you are committed to your profession and want to make a difference.  We will ensure that you maintain competence and help you develop your professional role within the organisation.

As a minimum you must have the higher certificate in food control awarded by the Environmental Health Registration Board or Scottish Food Safety Officers Registration Board or Equivalency as prescribed by the food law code of practice 2017.
