The role 

Around one-third of households supported by Camden's Housing Support Services occupy homes in the private rented sector. Our Environmental Health Officers work for the improvement and good management of these and other private sector homes.  

No two days are the same. You can expect a mix of casework and project work, supporting tenants on a case-by-case basis, as well as working proactively to address common problems. The role will initially focus on HMO licensing. 

Although you'll spend much of your time out and about, you'll also benefit from the excellent facilities at our modern Kings Cross office. It's a great place to advance your skills and make a difference to the community. 

In addition the post attracts: 

A Golden Hello of £2,000 

Zone 1 and 2 Annual Travel Card Allowance 

A 7% supplement to basic salary. 

About you 

You will be a qualified Environmental Health Officer with a certificate of registration issued by the Environmental Health Registration Board (‘EHRB’). Alongside this qualification, you will be expected to have a detailed knowledge/understanding of the Housing Act 2004 and other legislation that can be used to control poor housing conditions as well the general legislative framework relevant to the team and its application to casework. You will be trained on HHSRS and have experience inspecting and licensing HMOs. 

A good understanding of house construction and components with an up to date understanding of improvement trends and capabilities including those around energy efficiency is essential to the role.
