Now is an exciting time to be joining Hull City Council, and Hull is experiencing a year like no other in its history as UK of City Culture 2017.

The positivity that is evident in Hull and the East Riding is a response to a transformation that has been underway for a number of years. Work on creating a rejuvenated city centre is nearing completion and there has been significant investment in the Ferens Art Gallery, Hull New Theatre, the Fruit Market, Old Town and the soon to be completed Hull Venue. These provide a backdrop to the City of Culture but are also part of a longer term aspiration to make Hull a world Class visitor destination.

Hull has also witnessed a multi-million pound economic boost with investment in the ABP/Siemens wind turbine facility, Reckitt Benckiser, and Smith and Nephew delivering major growth in the jobs market and new found confidence in a City with a proud manufacturing tradition

This is also a busy and challenging time for staff in the Public Protection Division who are working hard to protect the health, safety and welfare of residents, employees and visitors as well as ensuring a safe and fair trading environment in which industry and commerce can flourish.

We require someone who has excellent leadership skills, is well organised and has a genuine interest in the continuous improvement of service provision and the development of staff.

You will be expected to ensure that a wide range of the Councils statutory duties are carried out efficiently and effectively. These duties primarily involve the enforcement of food safety as well as health and safety legislation, acting as a Responsible Authority for licensing applications and working under direction from the "Proper Officer"(Public Health England) to control the spread of infectious disease.

As a senior member of the Public Protection Division management team you will contribute to the delivery of the Service Area Business Plan and the broader public health priorities.
